Title of Bronze Award Project: Helping my Grandma's Nursing Home
I am a fifth grade student in San Diego, California. I completed a project at my grandmother's nursing home. I earned the Sign of the Rainbow. I got to know some of my grandma's friends and I interviewed them to earn the Folklore Badge as part of the Sign of the Rainbow. I completed the Outdoor Creativity and Camera Shots badges to prepare for my Bronze Award project. I also learned about gardening, and learned to use a new digital camera that I got for my 10th birthday. I earned my Junior Aide Award last year by helping set up a Brownie Play Day for my service unit.
For my Bronze Award, I called the activity leader at my grandma's nursing home and arranged to help my granmother's friends plant a garden. I helped the residents by getting plants and seeds donated from a local nursery. Then, I helped them plant seeds and seedlings, and came by weekly to help them weed. When the garden was in bloom, I took pictures and made a display in the nursing home's cafeteria for all of them to enjoy. This was a really good experience for me. I enjoyed helping others. I won't forget about my experiences earning the Bronze Award.
